Maisha Women

Women carry the heaviest, least-visible load in most households here — raising children, running small farms, and absorbing the fallout when things go wrong at home. Maisha Women exists to shift some of that weight.

Many of the women Maisha works with are running a household largely alone, farming small plots to feed their families and sell what's left over for school supplies, salt, and soap. Some are also navigating abusive relationships or the aftermath of a partner's infidelity, with little support and fewer options.

Maisha Women brings together maternal and reproductive health support, HIV testing and counselling, and economic training — village savings groups, craft cooperatives, and basic agricultural support — so women have both the health and the income to make their own decisions. We also run free counselling for women affected by trauma, depression, or domestic violence, and provide temporary shelter for women in crisis pregnancies through our centre.

It adds up to one goal: women who are healthier, more financially independent, and less alone when things get hard.
