Maisha Youth
Of every 100 children who start primary school here, only about 39 make it to primary five. Maisha Youth is built for the young people the system has already lost.
HIV/AIDS and the region's history of civil conflict have left many young people in Kagadi District without parents, and without a clear path forward. Some end up on the street looking for casual work; some, particularly girls, are married off early when families can no longer support them. Maisha Youth exists to pull that trajectory back toward school, skills, and stability.
The programme covers school fees, books, uniforms, and other basic necessities to keep vulnerable youth — orphans, children with disabilities, and street kids — enrolled in education, paired with vocational training, nutrition, and healthcare support. Spiritual counselling and rehabilitation programmes run alongside, for young people recovering from trauma or from behaviours like substance abuse that took root after they lost family support.
The aim isn't just to help these young people survive their circumstances — it's to put them in a position to shape their communities, not just get by in them.
