Water Access
A borehole does more than provide water. Done properly, it gives back the hours a family used to spend fetching it — and gets children back in school.
In much of Kagadi District, the nearest water source is an unprotected stream shared with livestock — a walk that can take hours and puts children, especially girls, at risk along the way. It's also a direct driver of school absenteeism: time spent fetching water is time not spent in a classroom.
Maisha drills boreholes across the district, but we treat the well itself as only half the job. Every borehole comes with water, sanitation, and hygiene training, and we train a local water-user committee and handpump mechanic so the well stays working long after we've moved on to the next site.
We also use each new well as an anchor for a Village Savings and Loan Association — small, member-run groups that let families turn the time and health gains from clean water into actual income, funding school fees and small businesses of their own.
This project is funded through our Maisha Water donation campaign, which covers drilling, training, and the ongoing maintenance that keeps a well running for years.
